What is the Acceptable Use Policy?

The Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) defines which products and business models can be sold through Polar. Polar is built for software companies, so the policy covers digital goods and services such as:
  • Software & SaaS
  • Digital products: templates, eBooks, code, icons, fonts, design assets, and similar
  • Premium content & access: courses, private GitHub repositories, Discord servers, and subscription content
It also lists what isn’t supported — for example physical goods, human services, marketplaces, and high-risk or regulated categories — along with businesses that require a closer review.

Why do we have one?

As your Merchant of Record, Polar is the legal seller of your products. That means we’re accountable to card networks, payment partners, and tax authorities for every transaction on the platform. The AUP keeps the platform compliant, protects buyers from fraud and abuse, and keeps chargeback and risk levels low so we can keep offering great rates and fast payouts to everyone.
